Parent Support Group Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for contacting me via email and letting me know of your interest in helping/supporting the children and theatre department here at Dixon Middle. I express sincere appreciation for your help and time! Let me tell you what I have been up to and what I have been working on... I am approaching my first project where I would LOVE help from the parents and family of the students I teach.

I purchased bolts of muslim to make 4 full scale backdrops for the upcoming theatre productions here at Dixon. Right now a local woman is sewing together those sheets of muslim. In two weeks I will be ready to paint and "seal" all of those backdrops so my students and I can begin projecting images onto the sealed muslim and painting them. In order to prepare for this huge undertaking I noticed that I need the following items; items that I could buy myself but it would take away all of the remaining school budget I have.

- Plastic sheets, tarps, or old bed sheets that I can use to protect the area we will be painting on from getting damaged.
- I am in need of a ton of duct tape and blue painting tape
- I am in need of many disposable brushes, tins and containers that the students can use to paint the backdrops. The reason I have chosen to use disposable brushes is because the students don't have time to properly clean out their painting brushes before heading to their next class and when they dry they all get damaged. After talking to other tech teachers I've concluded that disposable sponge brushes are the way to go even though we will still try to save as many as we can through cleaning them out
- Any old or new cans/buckets of paint, spray paint that you many have
- Nail and screws, I will take and use whatever you may have :)

I know this is asking for a lot and for that I apologize. I don't expect ANYONE to go out and buy these materials unless you want to; I will consider your generosity a great donation to the Dixon Theatre Department. If you however have any of these materials around your homes or in your garages, I would LOVE to take them off your hands! I would also love to give your student some extra credit points for being so willing to help and having such awesome and supportive parents.

Once again, I am not asking you to do anything but I would sure appreciate any help or donations you may have to give. I will gladly take used materials so don't worry if they are not in tip-top-shape. If in 2 weeks you would like to come to the school during class and help me guide the theatre students in building and painting the backdrops then you are more then welcome to join us! We would love to have you!

Thank you so much for your help!
