Rehearsals are going great! You student is very talented and contributing greatly to the success of the High School Musical Jr. rehearsals that are currently under way. I am writing this letter to you today however to make you aware of 3 things coming up that involve you and your students’ attendance and participation.
1. AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSALS FROM 3:00-4:20
I’ve talked with Principal Sites and the other drama teachers that have directed the musicals here at Dixon. He supports me in my desire to do what other teachers have done in the past and begin after school rehearsals beginning April 16th to May 1st. Don’t worry though! These rehearsals are going to sync up exactly with the after school programs we offer her at Dixon! Students will rehearse from 3:00-4:20 in the auditorium, go to the cafeteria for a treat and then the busses will be there to pick up your students at take them home between 4:30-4:45.
2. FRIDAY = Costume Dress Up Day
One of the reasons why I chose to do High School Musical Jr. was because the costumes requirements are the same as the clothes your student wears to Dixon everyday. Gathering these costumes for the production is going to be really do-able. Here is what is going to happen. EVERY FRIDAY beginning on March 9th I want your student to wear his/her costume to school. The color scheme for the show is going to be WHITE, RED, and YELLOW. Your student is a Braianic, Drama Thespian, Geek, Skater or Student. Try to find an outfit in their closet that fits within these character categories. All costumes need to be Dixon dress code worthy as your student will need to wear these ‘costumes” to school each Friday. I DO NOT EXPECT YOU TO GO OUT AND BUY CLOTHES FOR YOUR STUDENT! If your student doesn’t have anything that would work we will let him/her borrow clothes from another student or from the Dixon Middle School costume shop. If I like what your student is wearing on Friday, I will photograph them and that costume will be one of the ones that they will wear for the show. Have them add to that costume or begin building another one for the next Friday. Towards the middle of April I will send a letter home requesting each student to bring their photographed costumes to school on a hanger and correctly labeled. I will explain soon. That way we will be able to begin collecting and switching costumes around
3. DAILY PRACTICE TIMECARDS
There are days where some days I feel like we are going to make it and be able to open a strong show as scheduled. Other days the students don’t remember what we have already covered and I have to re-teach the dancing, lines and music to them all over again. In order for us to stay on track, this needs to change. On the back of this paper I will need you to sign your signature for each day your student practiced their lines, music and choreography. They will turn these “timecard” in each Friday for class participation points. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS EFFORT PARENTS. We need to keep moving forward. Your students need to practice for at least 20 minutes a night.Practice lines with them, test them, have them show you’re their dances etc. With your help I know the students can stay rehearsed and not forget all that was taught to them in class. Thank you SO MUCH for your support!
